Shepton Mallet Youth Peoples Centre
When you become involved with the Somerset County Youth Service you can expect:
- The environment is appealing and attractive, and a programme which aims to be interesting and enjoyable
- Recognition that all young people are not the same. That your needs and hopes do not come solely from their age but also from gender, race, culture, religion, sexuality and disabilities etc.
- Instances of racism will be treated seriously and will be recorded
- A focus on the issues which affect you life so you can make better choices about your decisions and actions
- A safe place to meet with support when things go wrong for you, when you are in distress, in trouble or at risk.
- The youth workers to encourage you to become active and involved so that we can plan and achieve things together
- Support to try new things, test yourself and take risks, sometimes for the first time
- To be listened to and taken seriously about concerns of harassment by adults and other young people
- To have a say in determining and agreeing the boundaries, ground rules and outcomes at your Youth Centre, Encouragement to express your opinions and have your views heard.
- That your permission is first obtained to pass on your information to contact people or agencies on your behalf. Unless there is a significant risk to your safety.
