Meet the MYPs!
Taunton Deane & West Somerset
MYP - Jaysen Sharpe
UK Youth Parliament has become my passion in life and for the last 4 years I thoroughly enjoyed representing your views and insuring that you are listened too. However politics as a career is not something I'm planning on (maybe in the long term) but I am very interested in law and I hope to become a barrister.
When I am not working on UK Youth Parliament I like to cycle, spend time with my friends and go sailing. Whilst I believe in what you believe in, a particular concern of mine is the lack of Sex and Relationship Education in school and I think that it really is appalling. I really do enjoy representing you and if you have concerns about things and you think UK Youth Parliament can make a difference feel free to write too me.
South Somerset
MYP - Sam Foulder-Hughes
Hi I'm Sam and I'm the MYP for South Somerset. The issue I'm going to be focusing on over the next two years is transport. I think living in Somerset can be an absolute pain, there isn't much going on and what is going on, if you live in a little village as I do, can be very hard to get to.
Over the next two years I'm going to try and make getting around Somerset a much easier task, for you the young people I serve. I may not always have the answers to your problems, but I will try my hardest to get them and the people who know me know that I am a hard worker and I don't give up.
So thank you for reading this very short piece about myself, and I hope I can make the changes that Somerset so desperately needs!
Deputy - Josh Hobson
Sedgemoor
MYP - Gemma Cain
I'm Gemma Cain, I am MYP for Sedgemoor and I am 15 years old. My main manifesto issue is bullying and discrimination because this is something that I feel is important to young people and me personally too, having been the victim of bullying myself. My interests include politics and listening to music. My favourite food is Coconutterly Fair Ben and Jerry's ice cream and least favourite food is sausages. I don;t know what I'd like to do when I'm older but I would like to study Philosophy, History, English and German at A-Level.
Deputy - Sophie Deakins
My name is Sophie Claire Deakins, I;m 13 years old. I haven’t decided what I want to be when I’m older. A few
random interesting facts about are: I’m a vegetarian and I love animals; my favourite colour is blue; my favourite drink is Oasis (the red one) and my hobbies include Drama, Singing and Dance.
I’m so pleased I’ve been chosen to be a DMYP (Deputy Member of Youth Parliament) by the people who voted for me and that I can make a difference in my community and others. I am a dedicated, goal oriented person and I will try my best to help improve Somerset for young people. Thank you!
Mendip
MYP - Jake Pitt
My name is Jake Pitt. I am fifteen and come from Wells in Mendip. Before becoming an MYP, I was in the Somerset UK Youth Parliament Advisory Group. Externally I am an elected Year Rep at my school and an Advisor to the Children's Commissioner for England. I am committed to representing the views of young people, and helping us to make our mark on society. My interests are politics, law and the media and I am passionate about youth services and provisions.
As your MYP I will dedicate myself to achieving the issues set out in my manifesto, Positive Images of Young People. The manifesto is concerned with increasing the affirmative representation of young people in the media and with publicly celebrating their achievements.
Deputy - Monika Mangarova
My name is Monika and I am 16 years old. I would describe myself as being genuine in all things I do and enjoy the simple things in life. I always look toward the next best thing and seeing other people happy makes me smile. Art is a passion of mine. I love music and reading, when I am at home always something is playing. "Friends" is one of my favourite programs and though I have watched it many times! I adore chocolate and it is like a little golden treasure for me. Life has thrown me many challenges and so far I have come out on top. I love to laugh and be silly but also know when to be serious.
Being part of Youth Parliament is new and unknown thing to me but so far I have enjoyed every little bit of it. I like the unfamiliarity of the experience as it makes it even more interesting.
