Club History
Shepton Mallet is a small market town nestling in a fold of the Mendip Hills along the narrow valley of the stream known as the River Sheppey.Sceapton or Sheepfold was an Anglo Saxon village at the time of the Domsesday book.
Shepton Mallet has many noticeable features including the 50ft high Market Cross dating from the 1500s and the Shambles a 15th centre covered market stall.
The River Sheppey gave power to the many woollen and silk mills and the silk for Queen Victoria and Queen Mary’s wedding dresses were both made here
The Anglo Bavarian Brewery was the first brewery in England to brew lager.
The Somerset & Dorset Railway was one of two 19th Century railways to cross the town and the mighty 26 arch viaduct still forms the eastern boundary of the town.
During World War II Shepton Mallet become a place for many evacuees and vital documents including the Domesday Book were stored here.
Shepton Mallet today has a population of around 8,000 residents with a number of schools, a leisure centre and outdoor swimming pool. The park has a play area, band stand, lake and playing fields. There is a wide range of clubs and activities including ATC, Scouts, Bowls, Tennis, Hockey and Football Clubs and of course our own Youth Centre.
