Details of SAFE Group
SAFE Youth Group is a group for 13-19 year olds who would benefit from non-judgmental support for any issues in their lives, in a fun, social and accepting environment.
Come Along
Membership of the group is by referral only. If you would like to attend a session, please telephone 01823 331700 and speak to a worker for more details. We will need consent from a parent or carer if you are under 18.
You can come along with a friend or family member if this would make you feel more comfortable.
All information we have about you will be kept in the strictest confidence.

Background information
The idea for this project came about through the experience of some young people who have mental health concerns themselves and felt there was a real gap in services to support them as they grew up. They found that their difficulties made them feel very isolated, especially because of peer pressure and the stigma attached, and that they were in a position to do something positive about it. They felt sharing their experiences could help other young people as well as themselves.
Agencies which support the group include: Somerset County Youth Services, Minder Educational Project and Connexions Somerset.
Aims and Activities
The aim of the group is that young people can socialise, meet others and have fun without the stigma that is attached to mental health.
There will be trained volunteers and professional staff on hand to ensure the environment is safe, relaxing and welcoming to all.
Any young person aged 13-19 years who may have, or have experienced mental health difficulties or concerns can be referred. Each young person will be treated as an individual and with respect. They do not need to be accessing mental health services already, as this group could be a preventative measure or could signpost them to services that could help.
Our activities aim to meet the young people's needs and follow their interests. Through consultation, we feel there will be a mix of activities purely for fun, and also activities enabling self help, learning and peer support.
