Somerset County Council wants this website to be as easy to use as possible and available to people with physical disabilities. This page describes practical steps you can take that may help to improve your experience of our site.

Making text larger

There are two ways to do this:

1. You can increase the text size in your browser by changing your browser settings.

For Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.x or higher [PC]
Select 'Tools' - 'Internet Options'.
Selecting the 'General' tab pick the option 'Accessibility'.
Select the third tick box from the top. This will override the font sizes specified on our web site.
Click OK.
Click OK to close.

To increase text sizes still further:
Select 'View' - 'Text Size'.
Choose from the list: 'Largest', 'Larger', 'Medium', 'Smaller', 'Smallest'.

For Netscape 4.x or higher [PC]
Select 'Edit' - 'Preferences'.
Select the 'Appearance' tree.
Select 'Fonts'. In the right hand side menu select the first option called 'Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts'. In the top part of the screen pick your preferred font and font size using the picklists.
Click OK.

To change text sizes further:
Select 'View' menu.
Select 'increase font' or 'decrease font' as desired.

2. You can also increase the text size by changing the size and the resolution of your screen.

For Microsoft® Windows [PC]
Select 'Start' - 'Settings' - 'Control panel'.
Select 'Display.
Select 'Settings' tab. Under desktop area select and move the slider to the left. Note: moving the slider to the left decreases screen resolution, moving the slider to the right increases screen resolution.
Click OK to close.
